CENTRAL OTAGO, NEW ZEALAND
The Essence of Central Otago
Located at the foot of our namesake mountain, Mt Difficulty is one of Central Otago’s leading artisan winegrowers with a pioneering heritage in the Bannockburn sub-region.
Part of our uniqueness stems from Mount Difficulty itself, which creates a particular microclimate for our vineyards. Located at the southern end of the Cromwell Basin, Bannockburn has a narrow range of heat summation, large diurnal shifts, and long, cool, dry autumns. It is because of this our Pinot Noirs show a true reflection of place.
We were among the first to plant vineyards on the south bank of the Kawarau River, and today our terroir-driven wines have helped establish Bannockburn as one of the world’s premier Pinot Noir regions. Sourcing fruit from 187 acres of some of the region’s oldest and best-suited vineyards, our winemaking philosophy stresses ethical viticulture and minimal intervention to produce Pinot Noirs that express their personality and reflect their unique home.
